"Rio 2016 Olympic games" stamp set on cover from Serbia

On June 7, 2016, the Serbian postal administration has released a nice set (2 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet) dedicated to the upcoming Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro from 5 to 21 August 2016.
103 Serbian athletes are engaged in 15 different sports in Rio with great chances of medals especially in water polo, swimming, athletics, shooting, taekwondo, basketball or tennis.
A big thank you Boban for this beautiful letter sent by registered mail from Belgrade on June 28, 2016, franked with this complete series !
Designed by Nadežda Skočajić, this series is devoted to taekwondo and tennis (stamps) and athletics (souvenir sheet) events, with the presence of the emblem of the Serbian Olympic Committee.

The two stamps (23 and 70 dinars, print run : 25,000 each) have been printed in a sheetlet consisting of 8 stamps + 1 central vignette (samba dancer), with the mention "Games of the XXXI Olympiad - Rio de Janeiro 2016" in Serbian (Latin letters), English, German and French (it's the case above) in the margins.
I really love these two stamps mixing colors of Serbian and Brazilian flags, probably alluding to Novak Djokovic (tennis) and Milica Mandić (Olympic champion in taekwondo +67 kg in London) !
As for the souvenir sheet (two stamps - 50 and 170 dinars, print run : 15,000), it is dedicated to a long jump event, with a scenery of the Bay of Rio de Janeiro on background and the famous Christ the Redeemer to the right.
The athlete Ivana Španović (European Champion 2016), one of the favorites in Rio, is probably in the spotlight on this souvenir sheet !

Republic of Korea-France joint stamp issue : 130 years of diplomatic ties

After years of tensions, particularly concerning the French Catholic missionaries arrived from 1836, and an armed conflict in 1866, a treaty of friendship and commerce was signed in 1886 between Korea and France, marking the official beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
This treaty was then part of the many treaties considered as "unequal" signed in the 19th century, as imposed by the colonizing Western powers in the region...
After an interruption of these relations between 1906 and 1949 after Japanese invasion, France and the Republic of Korea renewed contacts, considered as "excellent" today, especially in the economic, cultural, research or education fields.

To commemorate the 130th anniversary of the establishment of these diplomatic relations, the postal administrations of South Korea and France have put into circulation on June 3, 2016, a joint set consisting of two stamps devoted to the theme of art crafts, ceramics for Korea and goldsmithing for France.
To note that this joint series (a first between the two countries) was also issued as part of the France-Korea Year 2015-2016.
A big thank you Ji-Ho for these two letters above and below with FDC cancellations from Nambusan, regarding the Korean version of this series !
Korea Post has released these 2 stamps (300 won, print run : 700,002) in a same sheet consisting of 18 stamps, including 2 stamps in a central band, separated by a coupon including the flags of the two countries and the mention of this 130th anniversary (see above).

To note that the Korean President Park Geun-hye, made a state visit to France from 1 to 4 June 2016 to mark this anniversary and strengthen ties between the two countries.
Another interesting fact : Korea Post has released two different FDC cancellations about these two stamps : a Celadon openwork incense burner dating from the 12th century (Goryeo Dynasty), National Treasure No. 95, exhibited in the National Museum of Korea in Seoul and a reliquary of Pepin I (elements from the 9th to the 11th century) being part of the treasure of the Abbey Church of Saint Foy in Conques (Aveyron).
This splendid Korean celadon has already been featured on Korean stamps in the past, especially on a definitive stamp issued in 1983.

The preview sale of the two French stamps (€ 0.80 and € 1.25, print run : 1,000,320 each) took place in Paris ("Carré d'Encre") but also in Conques where a the same FDC postmark was offered to the public (see cover above). Thank you very much Roland !
This reliquary of "Pepin" (Pepin I of Aquitaine) is one of the oldest pieces of jewelry in France and Europe, house-shaped and designed from wood covered with gold, enamel, gems or precious stones.
That stamp was designed by Elsa Catelin (France), the other one having been created by Kim Sojeong (Korea).

On June 21, 1991, a National Council Act formalized the establishment of the Police of the Czech Republic ("Policie České Republiky"), an armed security force subordinated to the Ministry of the Interior, in the service of the people, to protect the security of people, property and public order and to prevent criminal offenses.

It is one of the 8 stamps of this booklet (print run : 30,000 booklets) that was used to frank the nice cover above sent on June 21, 2016 from Prague. Thank you very much Slavek !
The different stamps of this booklet are featuring the emblems of the Police of the Czech Republic and its various entities, such as the traffic police ("dopravni policie") here.
To note the special cancellation above (design : Jan Ungrát) put into circulation only on June 21, 2016 by the main post office of Prague 1, evoking this 25th anniversary of the Police of the Czech Republic, with the figure "25" and these 2 lime tree leaves (the emblematic tree of the country, 4 of these leaves are depicted on the emblem of the Czech Police).
The additional vignette (11 CZK) allows to reach the current postal rate for a shipment up to 50g in Europe (27 CZK).

On June 3, 2016, the Kyrgyz Express Post (KEP), the second designated postal operator (the other one being the Kyrgyz Post) of Kyrgyzstan, has released two really beautiful souvenir sheets dedicated to main world philatelic exhibitions : "World Stamp Show-New York 2016" held in New York from 28 May to 4 June 2016 and "PHILATAIPEI 2016 world Stamp championship Exhibition" held in Taipei from 21 to 26 October 2016.
A big thank you Iana for these two great covers below sent from Bishkek on June 23, 2016, respectively franked with these two souvenir sheets !

Designed by Aliona Cojocari, these two souvenir sheets (print run : 10,000 each) evoke these two philatelic exhibitions through the prism of typical wildlife and landscapes of the two cities or countries, such as Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) flying over New York above.
A view of the famous skyline of New York, with a part of Manhattan Bridge in the foreground and the Empire State Building in the background, is shown on the stamp (250 soms - postal rate for an international registered letter up to 50g) and margins of the sheet above.
The logo of this "World Stamp Show-New York 2016" (Statue of Liberty) is also present on the stamp next to that bird of prey, national emblem of the USA.

A typical landscape of the eastern mountainous forests of the island of Taiwan, where most of Formosan black bears (Ursus thibetanus formosanus) are living, between 1,000 and 3,000 meters above sea level, is featured on the 2nd souvenir sheet above, dedicated to this "PHILATAIPEI 2016" exhibition.
Also called white-throated bear, this endemic species, protected and threatened, is the largest living mammal on this island.
The nominal value of this souvenir sheet (150 soms) is corresponding to an international standard mail up to 50g.

On June 16, 2016, the KEP has released its first four prepaid postcards (01/2016 to 04/2016), part of a series entitled "My Kyrgyzstan" with iconic landscapes of this tiny mountain country of Central Asia.
A big thank you Iana for having been kind enough to also send me these four nice cards (front above, back below), designed by Aliona Cojocari and printed in Kyrgyzstan (by Adver Group) in 2,500 copies each !

Lake Issyk Kul (the second largest mountain lake in the world), the main square (Ala-Too) of Bishkek with the Aykol Manas Monument and the State Historical Museum, Tian Shan mountain range as well as Burana tower (9th century, a remnant of the ancient city of Balasagun) are featured on these four cards.
To note that a First Day cancellation (stylized representation of the crown of the traditional Kyrgyz yurt) was issued on this occasion, applied to the other side of these four postcards above.
The pre-printed stamp (permanent rate "A" - standard international postcard, 50 soms currently) shows a geographical map of Kyrgyzstan, with in particular Lake Issyk Kul and Mount Jengish Chokosu (7439m), the highest point of the country in the Tian Shan mountains.

After two sets of 8 prepaid cards issued in 2014 and 2015, the Czech Post issued on June 8, 2016, a third series of 8 cards, also devoted to different historical postal buildings located throughout Czech Republic.
Bret was kind enough to send me these 8 cards (from A 233/2016 to A 240/2016, print run : 3,300 each) with a hand postmark from Prague of the first day of issue. Thank you very much !
These 8 cards correspond to the domestic postal rate "A" (letter up to 50g), i.e. 16 CZK currently.
The pre-printed stamp (design : Bedřich Housa) is featuring, as in previous years, the coat of arms of the country.

On these 8 cards, Bret added a stamp (11 CZK) in order to reach the postal rate for a shipment up to 50g to Europe (currently 27 CZK). That stamp, issued on 1 February 2006, is part of the Czech definitive series about flowers, hibiscus (ibišek) here.
To note that the photographs reproduced on these cards are all part of the collections of the Postal Museum in Prague, explaining the presence of this Museum's logo at the bottom left.

As already mentioned on this blog, a special stamp was issued on April 2, 2016 at the occasion of the UEFA European Football Championship, held in France from June 10 to July 10, 2016.
As a reminder, that stamp is packed with innovations : round shape with, for the first time, 24 stars in the perforation (reminding the 24 teams competing), a silver ink giving a metallic aspect to the Trophy, an embossed ball as well as a grass clippings fragrance (a world first I think).

That same stamp (€ 1.00, design : advertising agency "Huitième Jour"), bringing together the three symbols of this competition (the Henri Delaunay trophy, the ball and the official logo) was used to frank the cover above.
On the occasion of the last game played in one of the 10 host cities of this Euro 2016, a special cancellation (also designed by the agency "Huitième Jour") was put into circulation, such as the one above evoking the semi final (Portugal-Wales) on July 6, 2016 in Lyon.
This postmark does not mention the names of the two participating countries, but only the Euro's logo and the mention "1/2 Finale".

EUROPA 2016 (Think Green) stamp on FDC from Belgium

Happy to add this nice FDC to my collection of covers franked with EUROPA series issued this year.
Thank you very much Jacques for this letter, with FDC cancellation from Brussels of June 13, 2016 regarding the EUROPA stamp issued by bpost, devoted to the theme of "Ecology in Europe" with this slogan "Think Green" !
That stamp (rate "1 Europe" corresponding to a standard letter up to 50g sent to Europe, currently € 1.13 from 5 stamps purchased, € 1.23 per unit) was printed in a sheetlet of 5 stamps (print run : 25,485 sheetlets) with illustrated margins.

As a reminder, that stamp was designed from the joint drawing (author : Doxia Sergidou / Cyprus Post) selected among 24 projects by PostEurop, as part of the 60th anniversary of the issue of the first CEPT-EUROPA stamps.
This drawing evokes the role and responsibility of human beings for a greener future.
Jacques used, to the left, a part of the top margin of the sheetlet, including a set of small ecological symbols (electric car, wind turbine, bike, recycling...) as a light bulb.
I'm not 100% sure but it seems that this bulb (design : Myriam Voz), also featured on the FDC cancellation, corresponds to the contribution of bpost in this contest organized by PostEurop...

UPAEP 2016 stamp from Spain : Olympic games !

Probably to celebrate the first ever Olympic Games held in South America, the theme chosen in 2016 for the issue of the America-UPAEP stamps is entitled "Olympiads" !
A more festive theme after "Fight against human trafficking" in 2015...
As a reminder, UPAEP (Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal) is a restricted union of the UPU, established in 1911, bringing together about thirty countries and territories.
Such as EUROPA stamps, UPAEP stamps are issued each year since 1989 by a dozen countries each year.
A big thank you Luis for this great FDC below, with cancellation from Madrid (sent on June 24, 2016) regarding the new UPAEP stamp issued on June 23, 2016 by the Spanish Post (Correos) !

That stamp (€ 1.30 - letter up to 20g sent outside Europe, print run : 220,000) is paying tribute to French Pierre de Coubertin (1863-1937), who revived the Olympic Games of the modern era (1st edition in 1896 in Athens) and founder of the International Olympic Committee (he was president from 1896 to 1925).
The emblem of the Spanish Olympic Committee is also present on that stamp as well as Jesse Owens (1913-1980), quadruple gold medalist at the Olympic Games of Berlin in 1936, games organized in Nazi Germany and then boycotted by Spain, which organized a People's Olympiad in Barcelona...
Unless I am mistaken, the Spanish Post is the first postal administration having issued a UPAEP stamp this year (Costa Rica issued a miniature sheet on July 15, 2016).

Euromed Postal 2016 joint stamp from Malta : Fish of the Mediterranean

July 9, 2016 was again chosen as the date of issue of a joint stamp between several Mediterranean countries, entitled "Euromed Postal" with this year a theme devoted to the "fish of the Mediterranean".
After a common design in 2014 and the "boats of the Mediterranean" in 2015, the participating postal administrations have issued this year different stamps devoted to typical species of fish from the Mediterranean Sea.
As a reminder, July 9th evokes the first International Convention of the Mediterranean Post signed in Marseille, France on July 9, 2007.
Since that date, the Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed), a restricted union of the UPU, was created on March 11, 2011 and currently includes 18 postal operators of Mediterranean countries (Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Monaco, Morocco, Palestine, Slovenia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey) as well as Portugal and Mauritania.

I was lucky enough to receive the official FDC above (with postmarks from the post office located in Old Bakery Street in Valletta) regarding the stamp (€ 3.59 - registered mail up to 30g to Europe, print run : 52,000, design : Richard J. Caruana) issued by the Post of Malta on July 9, 2016. Thank you very much Silvan !
To note that the secretariat of this Postal Union for the Mediterranean is located in Malta, in the city of Marsa.
This Maltese stamp depicts a couple of common dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus), a fish called "Lampuka" in Malta. This species of carnivorous fish can be observed occasionally in the Mediterranean, in particular between August and December in Malta.
This fish is characterized by its bright colors (metallic blue-green with gold stripes) that may change in few minutes...
To date, 8 other postal administrations have issued the same type of stamp in 2016 : Palestine, Slovenia, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Portugal, Croatia and France (a first for this country).

EUROPA 2016 (Think Green) stamp on cover from Austria

As it was the case in recent years, Austrian Post has issued a single EUROPA stamp this year, on May 14, 2016 exactly, devoted to the theme of Ecology in Europe through the slogan "Think Green".
This is probably the biggest EUROPA stamp issued this year (3.2 x 5 cm), printed in the Netherlands by Joh.Enschedé Stamps B.V, reproducing the joint design (author : Doxia Sergidou / Cyprus Post) chosen among 24 projects by PostEurop, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the issue of the first CEPT-EUROPA stamps.
A big thank you Edna for this nice cover sent on July 1, 2016 from Vienna ("Philatelie.Shop"), franked with that stamp !

As a reminder, the design reproduced on that stamp (€ 0.80, print run : 250,000, layout : Regina Simon) aims to show that making our planet greener and environmentally friendly is in our own hands.
This concept is illustrated on that stamp with this hand holding a paint roller, turning a dirty, gray, industrial, polluted landscape into another clean and green one, in which renewable energies (solar, wind) or sports practices (bike here) in a healthy environment, are a priority.

Special "World Stamp Show-New York 2016" postmark in South Korea

TAD spécial "World Stamp Show-New York 2016" en Corée du Sud

Merci beaucoup Ji-Ho !
The South Korean Post was present at the philatelic exhibition "World Stamp Show-New York 2016" held in New York from 28 May to 4 June 2016.
On this occasion, a special postmark was put into circulation in Seoul, featuring the top part of the famous Statue of Liberty.
I guess that this postmark was proposed for the duration of this exhibition, for example on June 1, 2016 on the two philatelic items below. Thank you very much Ji-Ho !

I have already mentioned on this blog this aerogramme above put into circulation in 2011 (or 2012 ?) following a change of postal rates by the Korea Post (400 to 420 won, 450 won currently).
The pre-printed stamp evokes a traditional Korean kite called "bangpaeyeon", shield-shaped with a central hole, used for air combat.
The other side of this aerogramme shows a view of a Pavilion being part of Changdeokgung Palace (15th century, Joseon Dynasty), located in Seoul, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997.

Ji-Ho also sent me the same day from Seoul this permanent validity card (valid for a domestic shipment up to 5g - 270 won currently) with a pre-printed stamp depicting an Eurasian Bullfinch).

"Reunification Monument in Buéa" stamps on my first cover from Cameroon !

A big thank you Roland for this nice cover sent on June 20, 2016 from the port and seaside town of Kribi (Gulf of Guinea) in Cameroon !
It is actually my first letter received from this African country. To note this interesting two-colours postmark with the date in red and the other mentions "Cameroon Postal Services", "Courrier 1", "500 - Kribi" as well as the logo of the Cameroonian Post (Campost) in black.
As it is the case for many other African countries, it is always complicated to find detailed information about stamps issued recently...

This is the case here with these two identical stamps (125 CFA Francs) with mention "Postes 2015" but I do not know the exact date of issue...
That stamp is part of a set of two stamps (the second one being round) dedicated to Monument of the Fiftieth Anniversaries of Independence and Reunification, inaugurated on February 18, 2014 by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, in the city of Buéa, located at the foot of Mount Cameroon.
This town of Buéa was the country's capital between 1901 and 1914 when it was occupied by the Germans.
After the 1st World War, the League of Nations then entrusted the eastern part of the country to France and the western area to UK, the two parts being reunited in the early 1960s.
As it is the case on these two stamps, it's worth noting that Campost only indicates the words "République du Cameroun" in French on its stamps issued since 2014 (the mention "Republic of Cameroon" in English was also present on stamps issued before).

Famous people on new stamp set from Moldova

As usual each year, the Post of Moldova has released on June 29, 2016, a new series of 4 stamps devoted to different important personalities ("Personalităţi ilustre") from Moldova, with great achievements in the fields of medicine, cinema and municipal administration of Chișinău.
I was lucky enough to receive the official FDC below (print run : 200 only !) about these 4 stamps (design : Oleg Cojocari), with cancellations from Chișinău (MD-2012). Thank you very much Nicolae !
The first stamp (L 1.20, print run : 300,000) pays tribute to Carol Schmidt (1846-1928), Mayor of Chișinău from 1877 to 1903, belonging to the German community who came to settle in Bessarabia from 1814.
Carol Schmidt is considered as one of the greatest mayors of Chișinău, having transformed this city (with the architect Alexandru Bernardazzi), introducing the first trams, public lighting, sewer system...
That stamp shows a Schmidt's portrait with also his bust (inaugurated in 2014 next to the National Philharmonic "Serghei Lunchevici") and the building housing the municipality of Chișinău.

The next stamp (L 1.20, print run : 200,000) commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of surgeon Nicolae Anestiadi (1916-1968), a pioneer of heart surgery in Moldova in particular with the creation in 1964 of the first department specialized in heart surgery and the first open-heart surgery later.
On August 9, 2006, Poșta Moldovei had already issued a prepaid envelope to mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of Nicolae Anestiadi.
The other two stamps above (L 1.75, print run : 100000 and L 5.75, print run : 300,000) are referring to two personalities of Soviet and Moldovan cinema, actor Grigore Grigoriu (1941-2003) and film director Emil Loteanu (1936 -2003).

Nicolae used a fifth stamp (L 4.50) on the other side of this envelope above, being part of a series of two stamps issued on November 3, 2010 to mark the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the flag and coat of arms of the Republic of Moldova.
Nicolae was kind enough to send me also the three maxicards below (design : Lilian Iaţco, print run : 1000 each) regarding 3 of the 4 stamps in this series.
Just wondering why no card was issued for the stamp dedicated to Nicolae Anestiadi ?

The respective film careers of Grigore Grigoriu and Emil Loteanu were often linked as the first often played in movies directed by the second, in particular in the films "Lăutarii" (1971, stamp issued in 1995) or "Şatra" (1976).
The stamp dedicated to Grigore Grigoriu shows a scene from this film "Şatra" (or "Queen of the Gypsies") with actress Svetlana Toma.
Loteanu became particularly known in 1978 with the film "A hunting accident" ("Gingaşa şi tandra mea fiară") inspired by Anton Chekhov's book "Hunting Drama" (1884).
A stamp was issued in 2015 to celebrate the UNESCO recognition of the waltz composed by Eugen Doga for this film.
Prepaid envelopes were also issued by the Poșta Moldovei, on March 12, 2004 and April 4, 2006, respectively devoted to the first anniversary of the death of Emil Loteanu and the 65th anniversary of the birth of Grigore Grigoriu.

Abbey Sainte-Croix on new French stamp about the town of Quimperlé

On June 20, 2016, the French Post has put in general sale a very nice stamp dedicated to the small Brittany town of Quimperlé (department of Finistère), characterized by its historic center dating from the Middle Ages and in particular its Abbey Sainte-Croix.
The First Day of issue of that stamp (€ 0.70, print run : 1,500,000) took place on 17 and 18 June 2016 in Quimperlé, but also in Paris at the "Carré d'Encre" as usual. Thank you very much Joël for this nice FDC from Paris !
After tango ("Stamp Day 2015", elected most beautiful engraved stamp issued in 2015) and Notre-Dame-des-Missions Church in Epinay-sur-Seine in 2016, this stamp is the third one having been designed and engraved by the very talented Christophe Laborde-Balen.

Christophe Laborde-Balen also designed the FDC cancellation showing the Lovignon Bridge (or flowered Bridge) on the Ellé river and a part of this Abbey Sainte-Croix, in particular its unusual circular plan (its central dome is 19 meters above the ground).
This Benedictine abbey, historical monument in 1840 and a masterpiece of Romanesque art, was founded around 1029, the same period when this Brittany town was created.
To note also on that stamp, to the left on the foreground, the presence of a bombard player at the window of a timbered house (probably the "Maison des Archers" dating from the 16th century).
This is a reference to Matilin an Dall or "Mathurin the blind" (1789-1859), born and died in Quimperlé, considered as one of the greatest bombard players of all time, a legend in Brittany.

Friendship Bridge and Khmer temples on postcard from Cambodia

A big thank you Terence for this beautiful postcard sent on June 16, 2016 from Phnom Penh, the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia !
To note the word "Cambodge" in French on the two postmarks while stamps are mentioning "Kingdom of Cambodia" or "Cambodia" in English...
Since 2015, the words "Kingdom of Cambodia" were actually simply replaced by "Cambodia".
This is the case on the stamp at the top right (500 Riels), issued on October 9, 2015, being part of a series of 4 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet dedicated to the temple of Banteay Chhmar (north-west of the country).
Left to nature for nearly 800 years, this complex of Banteay Chhmar has yet without any doubt been the second Khmer city after Angkor, often degraded or looted and having known no major restoration to date...

Another temple, Preah Vihear, is featured on the two top left stamps (300 and 600 Riels), being part of two sets respectively issued on November 9, 2008 and July 7, 2009, dedicated to the inscription of this temple on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This temple, dedicated to Shiva, a well-preserved masterpiece of Khmer architecture of the 11th century AD, is regularly causing a border dispute with neighboring Thailand...
The last stamp above (400 Riels) is part of a series of 5 stamps, issued on April 25, 2003, devoted to infrastructure projects built with financial assistance from Japan, Chroy Changvar Bridge or "Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge" here, built in 1966, crossing the Tonlé Sap river between Phnom Penh and the peninsula of Chrui Changvar.

Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games - FDCs from Czech Republic

Merci beaucoup Bret !
Approximately 10,500 athletes from 207 countries or territories affiliated to the IOC, will participate in the 31th Summer Olympiad organized for the first time ever in South America, in Rio de Janeiro (from 5 to 21 August 2016).
Among these athletes, a hundred from Czech Republic, engaged in 25 sports, including athletics in the spotlight on the special stamp issued by the Czech Post on June 22, 2016, devoted to these Olympic Games in Rio.
It is that stamp (32 CZK), designed by Milan Jaroš, which is on the nice official FDC below (print run : 3,500 - selling price : 48 CZK). Thank you very much Bret !

That stamp, including the emblem of the Czech Olympic Committee as well as the words "Czech Olympic Team - Rio 2016", shows the silhouette of a female athlete (wearing the yellow and green colors of the Brazilian flag) jumping over a hurdle.
It's not official but it is the Czech 400 meter hurdles athlete, Zuzana Hejnová (world champion in 2013 and 2015), one of the great medal chances in Rio, who seems to be featured on that stamp...
To note also on this envelope, the engraving to the left (author : Miloš Ondráček) with the pictogram used during these Rio 2016 games devoted to modern pentathlon.
The FDC cancellation from Prague is also interesting because it was designed from a drawing of an athlete by Emil Zatopek (1922-2000), one of the greatest Czechoslovak athletes (4 times Olympic champion) with one of his quotes "Nemůžeš? Přidej!" ("You can't? Speed up!").

This drawing of a runner by Emil Zatopek is also represented on the uniforms of the Czech Olympic team in Rio 2016.
The same day, the Czech Post issued a second stamp (16 CZK), also designed by Milan Jaroš, dedicated to the Paralympic Games of Rio 2016 (15th edition) held from 7 to 18 September 2016.
That stamp, depicting a wheelchair athlete, is on the 2nd FDC above (print run : 3,500 - selling price : 32 CZK) from Prague, with a postmark showing an athlete with leg's prosthetics.
The engraving on this envelope (author : Miloš Ondráček) is depicting pictograms of 5 Paralympic disciplines, among the 22 sports at the program of these games.

Bret was finally kind enough to send me the two First Day sheets above and below regarding these two same stamps.

On March 26, 2016, the Brazilian Post (Correios) issued a set of 4 se-tenant stamps as part of its "Diplomatic Relations" series, started in 2009, devoted this time to the links with France, in particular to the 200th anniversary of the French artistic mission in Brazil.
To note that it was not a joint issue between the two countries.
I was very lucky to receive the FDC below including these 4 stamps (R$ 3.55 each, print run : 480,000) with FDC cancellation from Rio de Janeiro. Thank you very much Marcelo for this cover sent on April 7, 2016 from São Paulo !
The Brazilian Post had already put into circulation two joint issues with France in 1990 (France/Brazil House in Rio) and 2008 (Amazon Rainforest and Sea of Ice) as well as a souvenir sheet in 2009 in the same "Diplomatic Relations" series, dedicated to the Year of France in Brazil (Claude Levi-Strauss and Le Corbusier).

Designed by Dalila Santos, these 4 stamps are devoted to some of the members of this French Artistic Mission : Joachim Lebreton (Head of this Mission - Institute of France), Auguste Grandjean de Montigny (architect), Nicolas-Antoine Taunay (landscape painter) and Jean-Baptiste Debret (historical painter).
After the fall of Napoleon and at the invitation of the Portuguese Court, this French Artistic Mission arrived in Rio de Janeiro on March 26, 1816. This mission's objective was the creation of the first Academy of Art in the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarve.
Historically, these French were the founders of the formal teaching of academic art in Brazil and also helped to strengthen the status of artists, allowing them to acquire a status of free and professional citizens, in a society en route to secularism.
Their influence extended to the areas of sanitation and hygiene notions that would apply in the construction of buildings and modify urbanism of cities, transforming the way of life in colonial Brazil.
To note that each of these 4 stamps includes elements bearing the colors of the flags of the two countries.

EUROPA 2016 (Think Green) stamp on cover from Guernsey

The Post of Guernsey is part of the twenty European postal administrations having issued this year only one EUROPA stamp, on May 6, 2016 exactly.
As a reminder, PostEurop has chosen this year, as part of the 60th anniversary of the issue of the first CEPT-EUROPA stamps, to organize a competition among member countries of this association to elect the drawing featured on these EUROPA stamps.
Among the 24 projects submitted, the design proposed by the Cyprus Post (author : Doxia Sergidou) was chosen ahead projects of the Slovenian Post and Hungarian Post.

It is that joint drawing, devoted to the theme of Ecology in Europe with in particular the slogan "Think Green", which is reproduced on this EUROPA stamp issued by the Post of Guernsey, used to frank the cover above sent on June 8, 2016.
That stamp (rate corresponding to a letter up to 20g sent in Europe, currently £ 0.64) was printed by Lowe-Martin (Canada) in a sheet containing 10 stamps.
To note that in previous years, the Post of Guernsey had issued two EUROPA stamps (being part of series consisting of 6 stamps)...
