Tribute to physicist Georges Charpak in France

With Pierre-Gilles de Gennes (1932-2007), Nobel Prize in Physics in 1991, Georges Charpak (1924-2010) is probably one of the best known French scientists of these recent years.
But contrary to Pierre-Gilles de Gennes, Georges Charpak has been honored by the French Post through a beautiful engraved stamp (€ 0.70) put on general sale on February 29, 2016.
The First Day of Issue of that stamp (print run : 1,299,840), engraved by Pierre Albuisson, took place on 26 and 27 February 2016 in Paris and Gardanne (13).
A big thank you Joël and Roland for these two FDC from Paris (Carré d'Encre) regarding that stamp !

French illustrator Florence Gendre is the author of that stamp (her first one !), very successful, showing a familiar portrait of Georges Charpak as well as an allusion to his multi-wire proportional chamber, an ionized particle detector (invented in 1968) for which he received the Nobel Prize in
Physics in 1992.
On her blog, Florence Gendre is sharing several preparatory drawings for the design of that stamp !
To note the Florence Gendre's dedication top left on that envelope, indicating that this is her first stamp :)
The FDC cancellation was created by Mathilde Laurent, the designer of the two booklets "Cows of our regions" and "Goats of our regions" issued in 2014 and 2015.

Georges Charpak, in addition to his many other scientific works (in particular at the CERN), was also a professor at the High School of Industrial Physics and Chemistry of the City of Paris, member of the Academy of Sciences from 1985 but especially at the initiative of a major renovation movement of science teaching in elementary schools, entitled "La main à la pâte" in French, currently still active in France but also in many other countries.
