Le 2 juillet 1504 mourait le voïvode Étienne le Grand et le Saint (1457-1504), ou "Ștefan cel Mare şi Sfînt" en roumain, après 47 ans de règne sur la Principauté de Moldavie.
Étienne le Grand est un véritable héros national en Roumanie et en Moldavie, symbole de la lutte du pays pour sa souveraineté à travers les siècles, en ayant lutter en particulier contre l'empire Ottoman.
Le 2 juillet est aujourd'hui un jour de commémoration en Moldavie, consacré au souvenir d'Étienne le Grand.

On July 2, 1504, the Voivod Stefan the Great and Holy (1457-1504), or "Ştefan cel Mare şi Sfînt" in Romanian, died after 47 years of rule over the Principality of Moldavia.
Stephen the Great is a national hero in Romania and Moldova, the symbol of the country's struggle for sovereignty over the centuries, having fight in particular against the Ottoman Empire.
July 2 is today a day of remembrance in Moldova, dedicated to the memory of Stephen the Great.
It is what the special postmark below to the right is reminding, issued in Chișinău on July 2, 2014. Thank you very much Serge for this very special philatelic item :-)
Cette carte est en fait un entier postal (0,80 L, tirage : 5000), conçu par Iurie Raileanu, émis le 29 avril 2008 pour célébrer le 80ème anniversaire de l'inauguration de la statue d'Étienne le Grand à Chișinău.
Cette statue en bronze, oeuvre du sculpteur Alexandru Plamădeală, a en effet été inaugurée à Chișinău en 1928. Elle fut ensuite plusieurs fois démontée et déplacée avant d'être réinstallée à sa place initiale à la fin des années 1990.
Pour concevoir ce monument, Plamădeală se serait inspiré d'une miniature représentant le voïvode datant de 1475, située dans le monastère de Humor (actuellement en Roumanie).
Le timbre à 2L ci-dessus fait partie d'une série émise le 2 juillet 2004 à l'occasion du 500ème anniversaire de la mort d'Étienne le Grand.
This card is actually a postal stationary (L 0.80, print run : 5.000), designed by Iurie Raileanu, issued on April 29, 2008 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the inauguration of the Stephen the Great monument in Chişinău.
This bronze statue by the sculptor Alexandru Plămădeală has indeed been inaugurated in Chişinău in 1928. It was then dismantled and moved several times before being reinstalled in its original place in the late 1990s.
To design this monument, Plămădeală would have been inspired by a miniature featuring the voivode dating from 1475, located in the Humor Monastery (now in Romania).
The L 2.00 stamp above is part of a series issued on July 2, 2004 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Stephen the Great.
Serge a également utilisé un timbre (0,25 L) faisant partie d'une série courante (6 timbres) émise le 15 février 2011, consacrée à différents bâtiments situés sur le territoire de la république de Moldavie, le manoir de la famille Mirzoian "Manuc-Bei" (19ème siècle) situé à Hînceşti ici.
L'autre côté de cet entier postal ci-dessus montre ce même monument représentant Étienne le Grand dans ses habits de prince, brandissant une croix dans la main gauche et une épée dans la main droite.
Ce monument est régulièrement fleuri lors de cérémonies nationales ou de visites de délégations étrangères en Moldavie.
Serge also used a stamp (L 0.25) being part of a definitive series (6 stamps) issued on February 15, 2011, devoted to different buildings located on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, the manor of the family Mirzoian "Manuc-Bei" (19th century) located in Hînceşti here.
The other side of this postal stationery above shows that same monument featuring Stephen the Great in his Prince's clothes, with a cross in left hand and a sword in the other hand.
This monument is regularly flourished during national ceremonies or visits of foreign delegations in Moldova.
