Le 14 juillet 2012, la poste de Lettonie a débuté une nouvelle série consacrée au sport avec un timbre représentant une lanceuse de javelot.
C'est ce timbre (0,60 lats, tarif pour une lettre standard vers le monde hors UE) qui figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessous avec un TAD de Riga reprenant le même visuel que le timbre. Merci beaucoup Juris :-)
L'émission du 1er timbre (conçu par Ludis Danilāns, tirage : 30000) de cette nouvelle série coïncide avec l'organisation des jeux olympiques d'été de Londres qui se terminent à la fin de cette semaine.
Comme ce fut le cas pour les émissions de France ou de Slovaquie, ce timbre ne mentionne pas ces jeux (ni logo, ni anneaux olympiques)...
On July 14, 2012, the Post of Latvia has started a new series dedicated to sports with a stamp depicting a javelin thrower.
It is that stamp (0.60 Lats, postal rate for a regular letter to the world outside the EU) that appears on the first day cover below with a postmark from Riga featuring the same design as the stamp. Thank you very much Juris :-)
The issue of the first stamp (designed by Ludis Danilāns, print run : 30000) of this series coincides with the organization of the Summer Olympic games in London, ending at the end of this week.
As it was the case for the stamps issued in France or Slovakia, that stamp does not mention these games (neither the official logo nor the Olympic rings)...
A noter que la poste lettone avait pourtant toujours émis, depuis 1996, des timbres spécifiques consacrés aux jeux olympiques d'été.
Depuis sa 1ère participation aux jeux olympiques de 1924 (la Lettonie participa aux jeux de 1924 à 1936 après la 1ère indépendance du pays, puis sous les couleurs de l'URSS et à nouveau sous les couleurs lettones depuis 1992 après la 2ème indépendance), les athlètes lettons ont remporté de très nombreuses médailles dans cette discipline du lancer du javelot : Inese Jaunzeme (médaille d'or en 1956), qui fut la 1ère athlète lettone championne olympique, Elvīra Ozoliņa (médaille d'or en 1960), Jānis Lūsis (médaille d'or en 1968), Dainis Kūla (médaille d'or en 1980) ou Vadims Vasiļevskis (médaille d'argent en 2004).
46 athlètes (dont 6 en lancer du javelot) représentent la Lettonie (aucune médaille à ce jour) à ces jeux de Londres, présents dans 12 sports (athlétisme, canoë-kayak, cyclisme, gymnastique artistique, judo, pentathlon moderne, tir, natation, tennis de table, beach volley, haltérophilie et lutte).
To note that the Latvian Post had however always issued, since 1996, some specific stamps devoted to Summer Olympics.
Since its first participation at the Olympic Games of 1924 (Latvia participated at the Olympics from 1924 to 1936 after the first independence of the country, then under the colors of the USSR and again under the colors of Latvia from 1992 after the second independence), the Latvian athletes have won many medals in javelin throw : Inese Jaunzeme (gold medal in 1956), who was then the first Latvian Olympic champion athlete, Elvīra Ozoliņa (gold medal in 1960), Jānis Lūsis (gold medal in 1968), Dainis Kūla (gold medal in 1980) or Vadims Vasiļevskis (silver medal in 2004).
46 athletes (including six competing in javelin throw) represent Latvia (no medals won to date) at these games in London in 12 sports (athletics, canoeing, cycling, gymnastics, judo, modern pentathlon, shooting, swimming, table tennis, beach volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling).
