Programme malaisien de recherche en Antarctique

Malaysian Antarctic Research Programme

Merci beaucoup Kkkhor :-)
On October 31, 2011, Malaysia officially became the 49th country to ratify the Antarctic Treaty. To celebrate this accession, the King (Yang di-Pertuan Agong) of Malaysia, Mizan Zainal Abidin, visited in November 2011 the New Zealand's research Scott Base in Antarctic to mark the royal recognition on the contribution of research carried out by Malaysian scientists in Antarctica.
To commemorate this event, the Post of Malaysia has issued, on March 8, 2012, an interesting series of three stamps (including two se-tenant stamps) devoted to the Malaysian Antarctic Research Programme (MARP).
I was lucky enough to receive the highly successful official FDC below with a funny cancellation (Emperor penguin and Malaysian flag) from the city of Ipoh, capital of the State of Perak. Thank you very much Kkkhor :-)

The left stamp (60 sen) is featuring a map of Antarctica with the flag of Malaysia, and a scenic view of a landscape of Ross Island.
The second square stamp (90 sen) shows a world map on which are located the main Antarctic Research agencies from different countries (to note that the French Polar Institute is curiously missing ?).
Malaysia is the only Muslim and member of ASEAN's country to have an active research program in Antarctica.
The last panoramic stamp shows depicts an Emperor penguin, Adelie penguins, as well as a MARP's Malaysian scientist doing atmospheric research.
The central part shows a microscopic view of an endemic Antarctic yeast, isolated by MARP's microbiologists studying on the mechanism of cold adaptation of microbes in Antarctica.

The other side of this FDC is also interesting because it depicts an overview of Scott Base, the New Zealand's scientific base in Antarctica that has hosted, since 1997, more than 60 scientific expeditions involving Malaysian researchers.
About 24 Malaysian research programs in biology and physics have been organized here, in coordination with the Malaysian Antarctic Research Programme (MARP), the Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Academy of Science of Malaysia.
We find the logos of these different organizations above as well as the Malaysian Post's one.
