Moustaches tchèques !

As promised to you, here are the last two FDC I've received inside the letter sent by the Czech Post, published on this blog on April 17, 2011 :-)
The Czech Post has chosen to pay tribute to the comedian Vlasta Burian (1891-1962) in a rather original way through this first FDC below issued on April 6, 2011 !
The illustration to the left evokes indeed eight of his famous whiskers he wore in different movies ("Ryba na suchu", "Baron Prášil", "Anton Špelec, ostrostřelec"...).

Vlasta Burian (his real name was Josef Vlastimil Burian), considered in Czech Republic as the "King of Comedians" ("Král komiků"), was also a high-level sportman (football, cycling, tennis), singer, businessman, imitator...
He had his heyday between the two world wars and was unjustly sentenced for Nazi collaboration. He will start playing again only from 1950 with his last movie in 1956 ("Zaostřit, prosím !").

A second stamp was issued the same day, devoted to 200 years of teaching at the Prague Conservatory.
It's this stamp that appears on the 2nd official FDC above, designed by Marina Richterova and engraved by Martin Srb.
The Prague Conservatory, founded in 1808 (first classes opened then in 1811), is considered as one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. The great Czech composer Anton Dvořák was its director in the early 20th century.
Students can today learn here music, singing, drama or dance, mentioned on the stamp.
To note the words in Latin "Gaudeamus igitur Iuvenes dum sumus" ("Let us rejoice, therefore, while we are young") written on the illustration to the left of the envelope, referring to a song (based on a Latin manuscript dating from the 13th century) considered today as the international song of the students...
