Temple de Brihadisvara en Inde

Brihadeeswarar Temple in India

In 1987 (with an extension 2004), the UNESCO has classified three ancient temples of the Chola Empire built in the 11th and 12th century in southern India under the name "Great Living Chola Temples".
Among these three temples, the Brihadeeswarar's one located at Thanjavur is the first great example of the Chola temples, that will be followed by the Brihadeeswarar temple at Gangaikondacholisvaram and the Airavatesvara temple at Darasuram. These three Great Chola Temples are an exceptional testimony of the development of Chola Empire's Dravidian style architecture and the Tamil civilization in South India.

The India Post has issued, on September 26, 2010, a very nice stamp devoted to the Brihadeeswarar temple at Thanjavur at the occasion of the 1,000th anniversary of its consecration. This is this stamp that is included in two copies as the official FDC above with a FDC cancellation from Bhubaneswar.
Thank you very much S.S. Rath :-)

This granite temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, built between 1003 and 1010 by order of the Chola King Râjarâja, is characterized by an impressive 13-floor pyramid shaped tower (65 meters high) topped by a cupola carved from a huge monolithic 80 tonne block.

I've also received the other cover from India above, mailed on September 16, 2010 from the village of Aquem, located in the state of Goa (Indian western coast).
Thank you very much Elton :-)
As you can see, this letter unfortunately didn't reach me in a very good condition...
I've already mentioned on this blog the stamps above : the one dedicated to Louis Braille issued in 2009 and those issued in 2010 featuring stadiums used during the recent Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Elton has completed his postage on the other side of his letter above with a souvenir sheet, issued on July 9, 2010, consisting of two stamps depicting two common birds of our cities : a couple of sparrows and a couple of pigeons.
I let you once again appreciate the very approximate perforations of these two stamps...
Surprising that a great country like India is not making more efforts to forevermore sort out this recurring problem ??
