Rattachement de Nice à la France

Incorporation of Nice to France

On June 14, 1860, the County of Nice is officially part of France, with also the Duchy of Savoy (see the other commemorative stamp issued on general sale on March 29, 2010).
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of this incorporation of Nice to France, the French Post has issued in preview sale, on June 11, 2010, the € 0.56 stamp below.
Thank you very much Roland for this FDC issued during the "Salon du Timbre" in Paris that has yet been officially opened on June 12 ?
The FDC cancellation, different from the one issued in March for the stamp dedicated to the incorporation of Savoy to France (which included an allegory of Nice yet...), reproduces the official logo of this 150th anniversary.

The same FDC cancellation was offered to the public in the city of Nice. As for the stamp dedicated to the incorporation of Savoy, a special postmark (but without any "first day" mention) was also available in Plombières-les-Bains (department of Vosges) refering to the secret meeting that took place in this city, on July 21, 1858, between Napoleon III and Count of Cavour (then Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia). In exchange for French military support to the Piedmont-Sardinia in its war against Austria, France would then be compensated by the annexation of Savoy and Nice.
The stamp above, which was originally to be issued in April, is reproducing a photograph (copyright of the municipality of Nice) showing an overview of the city from the sea with the snowy Alps (Mercantour) in the background (Nice was a candidate city for organizing the 2018 Winter Olympics...). It's worth noting that this stamp does not refer to the treaty of annexation of Turin, signed on March 24, 1860...
An irony of timing, Poste Italiane has issued on June 6, 2010, a stamp commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour (1810-1861)...
