Les 4 rois indiens au Canada

The Four Indian Kings in Canada

Merci beaucoup Garnet :-)
To commemorate the 300th anniversary of the execution of four portraits that showed then the first diplomatic relations between the First Nations and the British Empire, Canada Post has issued on April 19, 2010, a series of four stamps reproducing those famous paintings.
These four stamps have been issued se-tenant in a plane of 16 stamps (4 strips of 4 stamps) but also in a souvenir sheet. A second version of this souvenir sheet was issued with an overprint in the margin, depicting the logo of the London 2010 International Festival of Stamps held from May 8 to 15, 2010.
I was lucky to receive a very nice letter, mailed in Edmonton on April 23, 2010, with the upper band of the plane.
Thank you very much Garnet :-)

These four Iroquois and Algonquin Kings, Tee Yee Neen Ho Ga Row ("Emperor of the Six Nations"), Sa Ga Yeath Qua Pieth Tow ("King of the Maquas"), Ho Nee Yeath Taw No Row ("King of Generethgarich") and Etow Oh Koam ("King of the River Nation") went to London in 1710 to meet Queen Anne. The British then seek to obtain the support of these indigenous nations in the war between England and France.
To immortalize this meeting, the Queen then commissioned court painter John Verelst to paint four paintings representing the four Kings full-length, imagining the scenery in the background...
These paintings, now the oldest existing full-length portraits of North American Aboriginals painted from life, are only since 1977, part of the collections of national treasures, of Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa.

The a bit outdated designs (in my opinion...) of these four stamps reminds me the style of stamps issued by Canada Post in the 1980's or 1990's...
