Année du Tigre...suite

Year of the Tiger...new part

Merci beaucoup Terence :-)
I've already evoked this topic in a previous post devoted to the set of two stamps and one souvenir sheet issued by Taiwan's Chunghwa Post on December 1, 2009.
Taiwan was probably the first postal administration to release its stamps dedicated to this new Chinese lunar year of the Metal Tiger ("Gengyin") which will officially begin on February 14, 2010.
As in 2008 for the Year of the Rat and 2009 for the Year of the Ox, the Post of Singapore has called upon this year again the artist Leo Teck Chong to design its new series of three stamps and one souvenir sheet issued on January 8, 2010 to announce this Year of the Tiger.
I suppose that this artist will also design the other nine next series of this new cycle...
These three stamps are included on the splendid official FDC below. Thank you very much Terence :-)

If you are affectionate, generous, sensitive and attractive, you're certainly born under the sign of the Tiger, ie being born in 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986 or 1998...
The Singapore Post has done things very well with this set of three stamps above (printed by the New Zealand "Southern Color Print") as it allows Singapore people to frank their New Year's Greetings letters (standard up to 20g) to worldwide : Singapore for the permanent rate "1st Local" (26c currently) stamp, Zone 2 (Asia and Pacific) for the 65c stamp and Zone 3 (rest of the world) for the $1.10 stamp !
As for the previous two years, a souvenir sheet consisting of two stamps ($5.00 and $10.00) has also been issued (printed by "Cartor Security Printing") using again an holographic technology with special morphing effect.

Terence also sent me this very interesting souvenir above issued at the occasion of the "Zodiac Fair" (philately, postcards, coins) Exhibition held from 6 to 10 January 2010 in the "Chinatown Point" complex situated, as its name suggests, in the historical and cultural Chinatown (District of Outram).
This Exhibition takes place each year at the launch of the stamps devoted to the Chinese Zodiac's New Year.
As on the previous FDC above, a special postmark with the words "Zodiac Fair" was affixed on this souvenir, with also three different special cancellations dated 8, 9 and January 10, 2010. I'd be curious to know the meaning of the Chinese characters in the upper part of these three cancellations ?
Note that a self-adhesive version of the 65c stamp (issued in sheet of 10 stamps) is included above on the left with the two same se-tenant stamps in gummed version.

Merci beaucoup Wang Jia Yi :-)
The tiger, traditionally called "Mountain Monarch" or "King of all beasts" in China, is a holy animal symbolizing the power and taking evil spirits away...
This New lunar Year of the Metal Tiger ("Gengyin") has thus to be a special year for the Chinese people !
The artist Ma Gang has designed this beautiful special stamp to 1.20 yuan, issued on January 5, 2010, dedicated to this new year of the Tiger.
This stamp is included on the cover above mailed on the first day of issue from the Jiangsu Province (from which town precisely ?).
Thank you very much Wang Jia Yi :-)
Three different packages are available for this stamp : sheet of 20 stamps, souvenir sheet of 6 stamps and booklet of 10 stamps.
It's worth noting the very interesting special cancellation affixed above with two red and black inks and the star-shaped perforations in the middle of each of the four sides of this stamp !
I've already evoked on this blog the two stamps on the left, part of the nice definitive Chinese series devoted to bird endemic species.
The last stamp (1.60 yuan), issued on March 10, 1989, is part of an older definitive series devoted to different traditional houses of the country, an house from the Guizhou Province (southern China) here.

Yesterday and today is taking place in Paris (at the new "Carré d'Encre" stamp shop) the First Day of Issue of the new "Year of the Tiger" souvenir sheet, composed of five identical stamps, issued by the French Post (general sale on January 18, 2010).
I was lucky enough to already receive the letter above posted yesterday in preview sale with a FDC cancellation designed by Aurelie Baras !! Thank you very much Roland :-)
As each year since the Year of the Dog in 2006, the French Post has called upon a Chinese artist living in France, Li Zhonggyao, to design this new stamp (very successfully I think) using the technique of Chinese ink wash and Chinese calligraphy.
A part of the top margin of this souvenir sheet is also included on this cover.

Eric Contesse a dit…

Here are some interesting details by my friend Terence from Singapore about the postmarks on the Chinese cover :
The cover was sent from Huqiu, in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
The direct translation for Huqiu is Tiger Hill. (Hu = Tiger =虎, qiu = Hill = 丘)
Since the cover is for the Year of Tiger, it is worthwhile to look for name of place with the word tiger (or "Hu") in it for cancellation. And after seeing covers sent by many from China, i realised that there are actually many places with the word Hu (or Tiger)in it.
