Séries EUROPA 2009 de Croatie et d'Espagne

EUROPA'09 stamps from Croatia and Spain

First of all a nice registered letter from Spain with the unique stamp, in five copies, issued on April 23, 2009 by the Spanish Post in the series EUROPA 2009 with Astronomy as topic.
Thank you very much Luis for this cover mailed on September 16, 2009 from Madrid :-)
I like the special effect given to this letter by the application of the five round postmarks contrasting with the five moons shown on each stamp !

This stamp is also mentioning that 2009 was declared International Year of Astronomy (IYA) jointly by the United Nations and the International Astronomical Union.
As a reminder, the IYA 2009 coincides with the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first observations made with a telescope. The postal administration of Spain has chosen to depict an artistic composition of space including the moon, whose craters and mountains were observed for the first time by Galileo in 1610.

Thank you very much Dragan for your cover from Croatia above mailed on September 7, 2009 from Rijeka :-)
I was very surprised when I discovered this EUROPA set, issued on May 9, 2009 by the Croatian Post... I was indeed convinced that this series consisted in two stamps each with a semi-circular perforation !
These two se tenant rectangular stamps are in fact reproducing a view of the universe taken by the Hubble telescope, with a pseudo-circular perforation probably symbolizing the objective of the telescope...
Croatian Post has also wanted, through this stamp, to mention the astronomical observatory of Zagreb, opened in 1903, at the heart of the events organized in Croatia as part of the International Year of Astronomy.

Dragan was also kind enough to join his letter the prepaid postcard ("dopisnica") above, issued on June 29, 2009.
The postal use of this postcard is only a domestic Croatian use.
The stamp depicts a geological map of Croatia to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Croatian Geological Survey ("Hrvatski geološki institut").
