Carte postale "Ferroviaire" canadienne

A Canadian "Railway" postcard

Here is a topic not often mentioned on this blog...
Garnet thank you very much for this very interesting postcard from Canada that allows me to speak today about trains and rail stations :-)
This card was mailed on 16th of March 2009 from the village of McAdam, famous in the province of New Brunswick for its railway station as part of the Canadian architectural heritage.
This building is today a provincial and national historic site, as written on the two special cancellations below.
This McAdam station had been depicted on a nice $2.00 stamp (issued on 5th of May 1989) as part of a series devoted to the architectural heritage of Canada, issued between 1989 and 1996.

Garnet had the great idea of using this stamp, with an orange background, to frank this postcard !
Built in a style which resembles that of a castle, the McAdam railway station reflects the Canadian Pacific Railway’s preferred architectural style at the turn of the 20th century with its grandiose stations and majestic hotels throughout Canada. The McAdam railway station is one of those rare examples that capture the essence of a Canadian Pacific railway station, complete with an hotel.
It no longer sees rail service since 1994 and is today partially used as a Museum.
To stay with this same theme, the 2nd stamp above depicts a Scotia 0-6-0 type locomotive, built in 1861 on the site of the Great Western Railway in Hamilton. It was the first Canadian locomotive with a steel boiler.
This stamp issued on 25th of October 1984, is part of a beautiful series about old locomotives, issued between 1983 and 1986.
With this set, Canada Post wanted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the construction of the transcontinental railroad and the 150 years of the first Canadian railway.
