1er timbres slovaques en euro

First-ever Slovak stamps in Euro currency

As already mentioned on this blog, Slovakia became on last January 1st 2009 the 16th EU member country to adopt the Euro currency, replacing the Slovak koruna in circulation since 1993.
For information, the official conversion rate is 30.1260 Sk for 1 euro.
On January 1 2009, the Slovak post issued its first-ever stamp in Euro currency, I will speak about very soon.
On January 2 2009, 12 new stamps have been issued, 8 with the same nominal values as coins (€ 0.01 to € 2.00) and 4 with the main postal rates in force (€ 0.33, € 0.66, € 0.83 and € 1.33).

This new series is on the theme "Slovak Pre-Romanesque and Romanesque Cultural Heritage", with some evocations of religious buildings, spread throughout Slovakia, dating from the 9th to the 13th century.
Robert thank you very much for the two beautiful covers above and below mailed from Bratislava on January 3 2009, allowing me to present you these 12 new stamps :-)

The € 1.33 stamp above is the only one of this set to have been issued in a souvenir sheet with margins reproducing the beautiful murals in the presbytery of the brick church of the Holy Cross in Hamuliakovo (middle 13th century), one of the few completely preserved romanesque buildings in southwestern Slovakia.
