Sarkozy sur lettre des Philippines !

Sarkozy on cover from the Philippines !

He is really everywhere !
I of course refer to the incumbent President of the European Union and also the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy...
He indeed appears on this official FDC issued by the Post of the Philippines !
Myron thank you very much for this French touch :-)
It's sure that the topic lends itself because the two stamps below were issued on June 26 2007 to commemorate the 60 years (day to day !) of Philippines-France diplomatic relations.
A treaty of friendship between the two countries has indeed been signed in Paris on June 26 1947, one year after the independence of the Philippines. I must confess that this event has gone a bit unnoticed in France...

His Excellency Nicolas Sarkozy is above alongside Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, President of the Philippines since 2001. She is the second woman to hold this position after Cory Aquino, president from 1986 to 1992.
The FDC cancellation represents the flags of the two countries and two symbolic monuments of the two capitals : the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the José Rizal monument in Manila.
José Rizal (1861-1896) played a key role in the emancipation of the Filipino people and especially in its struggle against Spanish colonial occupation. He paid this commitment of his life, being shot in 1896. He is the great national hero of the Philippines.
The scale is not met since the Eiffel Tower is approximately 10 times higher than the Rizal monument :-))
These two stamps on which a classical postmark of October 10 2008 was affixed, represent some monuments, landscapes, customs (?) of the two countries.
We can recognize on the 7 Peso stamp the Eiffel Tower, the pyramid of the Louvre Museum, the Sacré-Coeur Basilica, the Moulin Rouge cabaret as well as a carousel to evoke Paris. The Rizal Monument is also present on the stamp but what are the other Filipino evocations ?
The 26 Peso stamp is more mysterious to me...a castle is represented on the right (which one ?) and a mountain on the left, which is perhaps the famous Mount Pinatubo volcan which woke up in 1991 after 500 years of inactivity ?
At this stamp's foreground, it seems to recognize dancers and peasants...
To be complete, a souvenir sheet consisting of a 26 Peso stamp had also been issued in this series. I've already mentioned in a previous post.
