Coiffes royales en Malaisie

Royal Headgears in Malaysia

Pos Malaysia has issued on September 16, 2008 a very nice set of 10 stamps representing headgears worn by rulers from some States of the federation of Malaysia.
These ten 50 sen se-tenant stamps appear on the beautiful FDC below, thank you very much Kkkhor :-)
Malaysia is divided into 13 states including 9 (often called Malay States located on the Malay peninsula) that are governed by a sovereign (named Raja in Perlis, Yang di-Pertuan Besar in Negeri Sembilan and Sultan elsewhere), the other 4 states being ruled by a governor.
These are these 9 rulers who elect the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia) for a period of 5 years, chosen among them.

This fabric (often silk) headdress with different colors depending on the states, is part of the ceremonial costume of these rulers for centuries. It is called "tengkolok" or "destar" and the style of folding, "solek".
The folding styles of the different headgears above are called Dendam Tak Sudah, Sekelungsung Bunga, Ketam Budu, Ayam Patah Kepak, Setan jak Balung Raja or Belalai Gajah.
The first stamp in the upper left reproduces the 9 headdresses with the Malaysian flag in background.
The next headgear is the one worn by the King of Malaysia during his coronation. It is in black fabric embroidered with gold and has the emblem of Malaysia within a 14-pointed star, over a crescent. This is this same headdress that appears on the FDC cancellation.
The next headresses are those worn by the rulers of the states of Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Kelantan (the only one which completely covers the head), Perak, Perlis, Selangor and Terengganu.
A question to my readers from Malaysia : do you know why the Sultan of Johor's headgear has not been included in this stamp set ??

We still don't have the right answer for ourself as Malaysian. Do you have any clue?

sorry, I've really no clue...
I've not yet found any answer to this question ?? Maybe the Johor State is special and not at the same level as the other eight concerned states in the Malaysian federation ?
I think I'll directly send this question to the Sultan of Johor !

If I do not make mistake, Johore Sultanate does not have headgear is because the headgear was fall into a river when the very previous Johore Sultane (I forgot which Johore Sultane) traveled by riding a boat on a river. The Johore Sultane fall the headgear into the river while Sultanate lowered his majestic head to see the fish or something found in the river.
This was happened very very very long time ago.....

I get to know this story when I was a secondary school student. If any mistake I make, please kindly correct me.
Philatelic Society of Malaysia website found this answer. heheh...

Thanks Kkkhor for this very interesting answer !
I'd really no idea of what could explain that the Johor's Headgear wasn't included in this set.
So thank you very much !
