2 nouveaux courriers du Brésil !

Two new covers from Brazil !

Beijing Olympics are over, it's not a reason for not mentioning the "Olympic" stamps issued for the occasion !
Today it's the turn of Brazil with this set of four se-tenant stamps issued on July 4, 2008.
Thank you very much Marcelo for this new wonderful FDC with "First Day" in Rio de Janeiro :-)
The author, Roberto Yassuo Ito, has chosen to represent three pictograms inspired by the logo "Chinese Seal-Dancing Beijing" of these 29th Olympic Games. This logo that appears on the 4th stamp of this series but also on the FDC cancellation and on the illustration of the cover.
The sports depicted on the 3 other stamps are rhythmic gymnastics, equestrian (presumably in homage to R. Pessoa, Jumping Olympic champion in Athens) and swimming.

The Brazilian Olympic team took a modest 23rd place in medals table with 15 medals (3 gold, 4 silver, 8 bronze)...
The 3 gold medals were won in athletics, volleyball (women) and swimming through Cesar Cielo Filho on 50 meters, the 1st Brazilian Olympic champion in swimming (he outpaced two French swimmers...) !
Fyi, Brazil had finished 16th nation in Athens and 9th (better than France !) at the last Paralympic Games in Beijing.
The five mascots (Fuwas) of these games, Beibei (fish), Jingjing (panda), Huanhuan (Olympic Flame), Yingying (antelope) and Nini (swallow) and the 2 yellow and green colors of the Brazilian flag are also included on these 4 stamps.

Above another nice cover mailed on September 6, 2008 from the city of Goiânia (capital of the state of Goiás) in the center-west of the country.
Thank you very much Luis :-) Take a look at his recent philatelic blog !
This souvenir sheet of two stamps, issued on May 16, 2008 is devoted to the fauna and flora of the Serra do Japi, a 350 km2 mountain range consisting of tropical forests within the state of Sao Paulo.
This forest is located in a densely populated area between Sao Paulo and Campinas and is threatened by human activities...
Since 1999 it's one of the 25 sites making up the Atlantic Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage natural site.
The stamp on the left represents a Burnished-buff Tanager (Tangara cayana cayana), a bird species living only in South America. Can be found in other regions of Brazil as Cerrado and the Amazon basin.
The right stamp shows one of the 650 species of butterflies living in the Serra, the Consul Fabius drurii.
Several other species are also represented in the margins of this sheet, with the ocelot for example at the bottom right.
Finally, the Brazilian Post has represented in the lower margin the logo of the International Year of Planet Earth with its subtitle "Earth Sciences for society".
