La lettre ci-dessous n'évoque pas un très bon souvenir pour les amateurs français de Basketball (Pallacanestro en italien !)...
Je m'explique : le timbre à 0,65€ évoque le 31ème championnat d'Europe féminin de Basketball qui a eu lieu en Italie du 24 septembre au 7 octobre 2007.
Ce championnat était qualificatif pour les prochains jeux olympiques de Pékin en 2008....l'équipe de France n'a terminé que 8ème et n'ira donc pas en Chine :-((
A noter que l'équipe masculine française s'est classée aussi 8ème du championnat d'Europe en Espagne et n'ira pas non plus à Pékin....Quel désastre !

Let me explain : the €0.65 stamp evokes the 31st European Women Basketball Championships held in Italy from September 24 to October 7, 2007.
This championship was qualifying for the next Beijing Olympic Games in 2008....the French team has finished in 8th place and will therefore not go to China :-((
Note that the Men French team was also ranked 8th at the European Championships in Spain and will not go to Beijing...What a disaster !
Merci Jacopo de m'avoir rappelé ce mauvais souvenir....mais bon, l'Italie n'a pas fait mieux à domicile en terminant 9ème !!Bravo à la Russie qui a gagné ce championnat devant l'Espagne et le surprenant Belarus.
Pour revenir au timbre, il a été émis le 22 septembre 2007 avec cachet 1er jour à Vasto, l'une des 4 villes des Abruzzes à avoir organisé ce championnat (avec Chieti, Lanciano et Ortona).
J'ai déjà évoqué dans un message précédent le cachet philatélique de la ville de Viareggio (Toscane), que je trouve très réussi...surtout quand il coïncide avec l'illustration à gauche de l'enveloppe (tour Mathilde) :-))

The stamp in question was issued on September 22, 2007 with FDC postmark in Vasto, one of the 4 towns of the Abruzzo region having organized this event (with Chieti, Lanciano and Ortona).
I have already mentioned in a previous post the philatelic postmark from the town of Viareggio (Tuscany), which I find very nice...especially when it coincides with the illustration on the left of the cover (Mathilde tower) :-))
